In 2008 DJZ Construction was started by Derek John Zender, 23-year-old young man with a vision and the determination to start a company on his own. He spent years working in the construction field with multiple different family members who were business owners themselves, but there was something within Derek that craved more. He wanted to create a business that provided quality craftsmanship with a sharp focus on detail without forgoing customer service. And 16 years later that mindset has not changed. DJZ Construction has become a well-known general contractor in Whatcom County that has a solid reputation for dependability, quality, and communication.

Zender History
Welcome to our story! Rooted in the heart of Whatcom County, our legacy is intertwined with the history of local baseball and the logging industry. Our journey began in the early 1900s with Peter Zender, a German immigrant who established a thriving farm and logging business in the Deming area.
The Zender family’s passion for baseball blossomed over the decades, with nine brothers forming the backbone of the Deming Loggers in the early 1950s. These brothers, with strong ties to the community and their family logging business, became local legends. They worked hard during the day and played baseball with fervor in the evenings and weekends.
The Deming Loggers, formed in 1952, quickly rose to prominence, showcasing exceptional talent and a unique brotherly bond. Their remarkable journey included fierce rivalries, state championships, and a memorable run to the national semi-pro tournament in Wichita, Kansas, in 1956. Despite facing challenges, their determination and skill earned them a place in the annals of baseball history.
As time passed, the demands of the logging business grew, and the Loggers eventually disbanded. However, the Zender family’s legacy continued, with descendants excelling in various sports and maintaining the family’s presence in the local community.
Today, we celebrate our rich heritage and the enduring spirit of teamwork and perseverance that defines us. We honor the memories of those who paved the way and continue to uphold the values of dedication, family, and community in everything we do.
